I figured 4:30 am is as good a time as any to update a blog. I knew when I fell asleep at 9:30 last night that I didn't stand a chance of sleeping in on Saturday. I've been sleeping surprisingly well this week for how many times I have to wake up at night, but here I am again. This hour between 4 and 5 often finds me lying awake in bed, trying desperately to go back to sleep. Sometimes if I get up for a change of scenery, I can go back after 5. Practice I suppose. In little more than a month my body may be begging for sleep during this hour, and I may not get the chance.
Yes, my due date is only 29 days away. She'll probably come late, as many first babies do. Up to this point though, I still don't mind being pregnant. What difference will an extra week make? Especially if it means Stephen is all done with finals by the time she arrives. At 8 months pregnant, I'm still healthy and happy. This baby girl loves to stretch her legs out and wiggle as much as possible. She doesn't really kick me ever, she just moves a lot. The doctor said on Tuesday that he's expecting an 8lb baby if she's on time, give or take an ounce a day if she's earlier or later than her due date. I asked the nurse who takes her heart beat every time I go why they hadn't been measuring my tummy to see how many weeks I was measuring. She said, "basically because Dr. Judd is just that good. He can tell how big your baby is when he feels your stomach." That was about the answer I was expecting. I was a little concerned last month when he told me she was going to be bigger than average, but I really have no worries about an 8 lb baby. Especially after last weeks news about the 14lb baby in California. Yikes.
Stephen and I just finished our pre-natal class at Orem Community, where I'll be delivering. It was a great class, and I think Stephen found it especially informative. We planned on taking the all day class on a Saturday, but that was the day of Grandpa's funeral. So we took the 4 week class on Tuesday nights instead. I thought it was nice to split it up. Plus we've got some good practice driving to the hospital. We're going back on Sunday for a tour of the mother/baby unit.
It's fun to finally have baby stuff in our home. We've got the pack n' play set up in our bedroom, taking up more room that we wish it did, but we might as well get used to it. The stroller/carseat set is still in it's box, but not for long. We have a bunch of little clothes that I got mostly at my shower last month, as well as some blankets and every color bow/headband I could think of. I think I'll always feel like I'm missing something, but I feel confident that if I had to bring a baby home tomorrow we would have what we need to take care of her. Now if only Stephen would stop using the pack n' play as a laundry basket...
